You Will be Wow'd by this Awesome Shipping Container Home
Since 2005 shipping containers began to appear in many news stories in the U.S., Canada, UK, Netherlands, China,
Australia, New Zealand, and much of Europe. Shipping container construction has become popular for not only homes,
but for offices, hotels, student housing, safe rooms, and emergency shelters.
A luxury home doesn’t always necessarily mean thousands of square footage, towering great rooms and gilded toilets. Take these homes for example: to begin building one of these epic houses, all you need is $2,000. That $2,000 will buy you a shipping container. What you do with that shipping container… well, that’s completely up to you. Some creative people have found a way to transform this rudimentary “room†with metal siding into luxury housing that blows us away.
This particular project is designed as a family retreat for a client that has been visiting the southern Colorado area for decades. The cabin consists of two bedrooms and two bathrooms – with guest quarters accessed from exterior deck.
Project by Studio H:T principal in charge Brad Tomecek (now with Tomecek Studio Architecture). The project is assembled with the structural and weather tight use of shipping containers. The cabin uses one 40’ container and six 20′ containers. The ends will be structurally reinforced and enclosed with additional site built walls and custom fitted high-performance glazing assemblies.
